The things you find here

We don't have no stinking Target here, my friends. Though you can find stuff from Target all over the place at these retail outlet sort of stores (think Marshall's on a smaller scale). Today I stopped by the little plaza thing off the highway from Santa Ana toward Escazu, just after the bridge under which Grandma used to live with her chickens; the plaza has a Levi's outlet and I think a Best Brands. Anyway, I went in Inbox Home to see what they had because 1) I love junk shopping, and 2) I love finding a bargain. I was both shocked and amazed to find some bottles of Method surface cleaner (I bought four). If you don't know about Method, they make 100% natural/biodegradable cleaners, etc., basically stuff you can't buy in Costa Rica at all (I really dislike showering the house in chemicals). Hopefully these four bottles will last a while. At any rate, the muchacha did say they would be getting more Method products in (hooray!). I also picked up these guarana mints that esposo loves, and a "mint chocolatini" mix from Target whereby you add booze and water, throw it in the freezer, and you have a party (there's one bucket left, btw, if anyone out there wants to go get it). I hope they will get more of that in! They also have bunches of dishes from Target. Targetware. Hee hee...

Tomorrow is esposo's birthday. I thought since it was his big 3-0 we could do mint chocolatinis instead of cake. Everyone gets a cake. I bet , relatively speaking, very few people get mint chocolatinis.

Digg!

  1. Method products are AWESOME!! I also have this addiction to Mrs Meyer's Clean Day stuff (got some handsoap at Tarjay once and was hooked!)I was so sad to see they stopped carrying it at Tarjay but but but.. Grocery Outlet (aka the dented can store) has bottles of the normally 4.99 dishsoap for .99 (NITNEY NINE CENTS!) I stock up at least every two weeks by getting 8-10 bottles.. If the world ends and we are left with nothing else at least I will have clean dishes (tarjay ware even!)

  2. Never seen that brand here, but I will keep an eye out for it! Seems like everything here is chemicals, chemicals, chemicals. Blah.

Oh, I have such fond memories of you and your mom and I shopping at that discount store over in Salinas... is it still there? Those were the (cheap) days! :-)

You'll have clean dishes, and I'll have clean floors. hee hee...

  4. Friday, 2/29/08 I was riding in a bus through Grecia on the way to Arenal and I caught sight of a sign that read "I love (heart) quilt". Are you that person? I wanted to holler STOP THE BUS!!! because I love to quilt and really wanted to meet a quilter in Costa Rica. I looked as we passed and saw someone inside holding up some material. It was a sweet moment for me and, of course, today I am Googling in order to find her/you. :D

  5. Nope, not me! I love quilting, but I've only got one sticker on my new car so far (Yo amo los animales). If you're interested, I sometimes go to the quilt guild held the first Tuesday of each month. I can post more info if you want; let me know! (Check over at http://www.costaricaquilts.com/; maybe the car belonged to Jennifer or Rita?)

  6. The sign I saw was on a building, Raven. Black sign, orange letters, I think. "I love quilt"

On the way to Arenal, it would be on the left side of the road through town. Thanks so much for the web address. I will check it out. Great of you to ask around, too. Thanks.

  7. Oops, my bad for trying to answer a question while esposo is heading me out the door! I quickly read what I thought was a bumper sticker on someone's car. Duh. Sorry about the mix-up!

Maybe that is a new place? I was up in Arenal about 6-8 months ago and didn't see any quilt shops up there. Of course it could also be that I wasn't paying attention.

If you're back in the San Jose area, there are a couple of nice ones down here.

  8. Next time you are in Grecia, look for the sign on the building as I described in last post. Check out the place and write about it here in your blog. That would be so sweet! I am incredibly curious!

  9. Okay! I know that place! I saw it on the way home from the mountain yesterday and wondered if that was where you were talking about. I'll check it out after Semana Santa is over and let you know!

  10. Hi! I ran across your blog on a google search for costa rica info.! I like Method too! hehe!

  11. Well, it is... to me! ;-) You'll get 100 different opinions about Costa Rica if you ask 100 different people. This blog started out because someone, L, I think, asked me what my day was like. I thought, not much different than most anyone else's, though of course there are some differences. So I'm always surprised when people who aren't my close friends or family read this blog! This is my life; I'm not trying to sell you anything (if you buy any CR books from the Amazon link 100% of the proceeds go to a cat shelter my mom works at in Ohio -- that's as close as it gets), so I just tells it like I sees it. If you come for a vacation, you probably won't experience 98% of the things I write about here, but if you live here (or are planning to), you might want to read what a lot of different people have to say.
